Windshield note: Volvo's S60 windshield-damage instructions explicitly require function checks and calibration of the forward camera after glass installation. Camera-area damage also needs inspection. Use the matching VIN procedure.
Check your version: The older XC60 BLIS example shows an indicator in the door panel; not all generations have the same display or sensors. EX30/EX90 and updated software need their own manuals.

Start with the behavior you recognize. A warning, a brief steering correction and continuous lane centering are different functions, even when the names sound similar.
Lane departure warning LDW
Warns when you drift near or over a lane line. Look for a lane icon, tone or vibration.
Lane keeping assistance LKA
May steer or otherwise intervene to help stop an unintended departure. This is a corrective action near the lane boundary.
Lane centering assistance
Makes ongoing steering inputs to help hold the lane center while its operating conditions are met.
Adaptive cruise control ACC
Adjusts speed to maintain a selected following gap. A distance-bars button can be a clue; ordinary cruise control need not do this.
Forward collision warning FCW
Alerts to a detected crash risk ahead. The warning alone does not mean the car will brake.
Automatic emergency braking AEB
Can apply the brakes when it detects an imminent crash. It has limits and cannot prevent every collision.
Read the owner's manual for the exact conditions and limitations. Stay attentive and ready to take control. Never test a feature by deliberately drifting, tailgating or approaching an obstacle.
The black housing near your mirror may contain several different parts. A photo helps identify visible equipment, but its shape alone cannot confirm every option.
A package name such as EyeSight, Honda Sensing or Ford Co-Pilot360 is a useful clue. The brand cards explain familiar names; the vehicle-specific information identifies the actual equipment.
A head-up display, acoustic glass and windshield heating can change the required glass specification. Mention these when requesting a quote, even if you are unsure whether your vehicle has a front camera.
Backup and surround-view cameras, blind-spot sensors, parking sensors and front radar can be located away from the windshield. A windshield-camera procedure does not automatically cover those components.
Calibration establishes the camera or sensor's intended relationship to the vehicle and its surroundings. You may also hear terms such as aiming, initialization or relearn. The name is a starting point: the vehicle manufacturer's procedure explains the actual work required.

An ambient-light sensor can control when exterior lights switch on. Automatic high beams perform a different task: they may use a forward camera to detect lights ahead. A rain sensor can share a module with a light sensor, but that does not make it the road-facing ADAS camera. Tell the provider which functions your vehicle has, and let the equipment check establish what is installed.
HELLA's rain and light sensor explanation | Honda's automatic-high-beam example
There is a chip near the camera. Tell the glass provider exactly where the damage is. The camera viewing area needs vehicle-specific assessment before deciding whether a repair is suitable.
The camera is being reused. Reusing a camera does not settle whether calibration is required. The manufacturer's procedure for your vehicle determines the work after windshield replacement.
There is no warning on the dash. A quiet dashboard is not documentation that a required calibration was completed. Ask which procedure applies and what completion record you will receive.
A warning appeared after the work. Record the exact message and contact the service provider promptly. Follow the owner's manual and do not rely on the affected feature. A warning alone does not identify its cause; diagnosis may require a qualified repair facility.
Photos and menu names help with identification. They do not replace checking the glass specification, fitted equipment and manufacturer service information.

Start with the owner’s manual, vehicle equipment information and the guide above. The housing near the rearview mirror may contain several different components. Appearance alone does not identify every feature. The provider can check the VIN, equipment and manufacturer information for your specific vehicle.
No. A rain sensor detects moisture on the windshield to help control automatic wipers. A forward-facing camera observes the road for supported driver-assistance functions. They may sit close together, but they have different jobs and service procedures.
No. Automatic headlights can respond to ambient light, while automatic high beams respond to conditions ahead, such as other vehicles’ lights. The sensors and controls used vary by vehicle. Check the owner’s manual rather than assuming one feature proves that a particular windshield camera is fitted.
The requirement depends on the vehicle, its equipment and the work performed. A vehicle maker may require camera aiming or calibration after windshield replacement or camera removal. The provider should check the current procedure for the specific vehicle rather than apply a universal rule.
Static calibration is performed with the vehicle stationary under specified setup conditions. Dynamic calibration involves driving under the conditions stated in the manufacturer’s procedure. Some systems require more than one step or method. The procedure for the actual vehicle determines what is needed.
No. Scanning checks diagnostic information; clearing trouble codes does not establish the camera’s aim. Calibration, programming and initialization can be separate operations. Ask which manufacturer-required steps apply and what documentation will confirm their completion.
No. The absence of a warning light or diagnostic trouble code does not by itself prove correct camera alignment or replace a required calibration procedure. After windshield work, ask what the vehicle maker requires and how completion will be documented.
They can obstruct or affect the area the camera looks through. Follow the owner’s manual for cleaning and restrictions around that area; do not add stickers or accessories across it. Tell the provider about windshield damage or camera messages. Do not move the camera or remove its housing to investigate.
Not necessarily. A rain sensor can have requirements for its optical coupling to the windshield and for initialization or setup. Those steps are distinct from aiming a road-facing camera. The correct process depends on the particular sensor and vehicle maker’s instructions.
Ask which glass part is proposed, which calibration or setup steps the manufacturer requires, where those steps will take place, and what records you will receive. Provide the year, make, model, VIN and any warning messages through the Quick Quote Form. Keep following the owner’s manual and remain responsible for driving; assistance features have limits.
