Cleaning and Care Tips for Your Car’s Windshield

Cleaning your car’s windshield is often a rushed process; you quickly scrub away the big stuff without much thought, with nary a thought toward attention to detail.

But cleaning your windshield is an integral part of car care. A clean windshield keeps your view clear and minimizes the risk of accidents.

1. Clean the big stuff

While this may seem like a no-brainer, most people overlook the importance of this first step. Make sure you clean away any large leaves or debris on your windshield. Lift the wipers and inspect them carefully to ensure nothing is stuck in them.

Don’t forget to clean out the little space between your windshield and the car’s hood. Often, leaves, gravel, and even ice can settle in. They can get dislodged while you’re driving and hit the windshield, causing damage.

Dried bird droppings are also an issue that you should deal with before you move on to the next step. Use water to soften and wipe off with a paper towel.

2.  Use a glass cleaner

For this step, you should start with one half of your windscreen. The reason being that if glass cleaner is left to dry, it can leave residue that’s difficult to get off.

Spray glass cleaner and wipe away using a micro-fiber cloth. Wipe in a semi-circular motion and don’t exert too much pressure on the glass while cleaning.

3. Windshield wax

This tip is slightly unconventional, but it can do wonders for your windshield. Take some car wax on a micro-fiber cloth. Using circular motions, rub the car wax on your windshield until it is completely covered. Let it dry for about 15 minutes.

Then, using a different cloth, polish the windshield just like you would polish the rest of the body. The wax provides an additional layer of protection. You’ll find that it’s easier to clean the dirt with just water after the wax. Plus, it repels water too—keeping your windshield clearer in case of rain.

4. Cleaning the inside of your windshield

Once you’ve cleaned the outside of your windshield, it’ll help you see the streaks on the inside of your car’s windshield more clearly. Cleaning the inside of your windshield is difficult, but necessary.

The first step is to clean the windshield of any dirt using a dry cloth. The inside of your windshield will have a layer of grease. It forms as a result of your car’s interior. To de-grease the screen, apply rubbing alcohol all over it. Finally, use a glass cleaner to get the perfect result.
